Former CBI director Vijay Shankar died on Tuesday after prolonged illness. 76-year-old Shankar was admitted in a private hospital in Noida for some time. His family said that as per his last wish, Vijay Shankar’s mortal remains will be donated to AIIMS.
Vijay Shankar, a 1969 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, served as the Director of CBI from 12 December 2005 to 31 July 2008. During his tenure, the agency investigated several high-profile cases.

Vijay Shankar, while being the director of CBI, has investigated the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case.
