The family of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput has decided to challenge the CBI closure report in court, calling it “superficial and incomplete”. The family says that the investigating agency ignored many important evidences.

The CBI report said that Sushant had committed suicide and no concrete evidence was found against Rhea Chakraborty or any other accused.

On which Sushant’s family lawyer Varun Singh says that the report is incomplete. He said that chats, statements of witnesses, bank records and medical reports should have been submitted in the court. The family alleges that important evidence like bank statements were not presented.

In March 2025, almost five years after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, the CBI presented the closure report of the case in the Patna court. In the report, his ex-girlfriend and actress Rhea Chakraborty was acquitted of all charges.

CBI submitted this closure report in both the cases. A case was filed by Sushant’s family in Patna against Rhea and her family for abetment of suicide. The second case was filed by Rhea against Sushant’s sisters and family in Mumbai.

Main points of CBI report

The CBI report said that Sushant had committed suicide. None of the allegations against Rhea Chakraborty and her family were proved. The investigation found that from June 8 to June 14, 2020, when Sushant’s body was found in his Bandra flat, none of the accused were with him or with him. Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty had left Sushant’s house on June 8 and did not return after that.

According to the report, Sushant last spoke to Showik on WhatsApp on June 10. There was no call, message or chat with Riya between June 8 and June 14. The investigation also did not reveal any contact between Sushant and Rhea or her family.

Sushant’s first manager Shritti Modi had stopped coming to the flat in February 2020 after breaking his leg. Sushant’s sister, Meetu Singh, stayed in his flat from June 8 to June 12. The investigation found no evidence of any accused instigating, pressurizing or threatening Sushant to commit suicide.

CBI financial investigation

The CBI found that when Rhea and Showik left the house on June 8, they took with them their personal belongings, which included the Apple laptop given to Rhea by Sushant and the Apple watch. The investigation found no evidence that Rhea took Sushant’s property or items without his permission.

Sushant and Rhea were in a live-in relationship from April 2018 to June 2020. Sushant had booked Europe trip tickets from his manager in October 2019. He also told his flatmate Siddharth Pithani that Riya is a part of the family. Therefore, the expenses incurred on Riya cannot be considered as fraud under Section 420 of IPC.

The CBI report also wrote that no evidence was found that Rhea or her family threatened or instigated Sushant to commit suicide.

Patna Court will hear this closure report on December 20.
