The Mumbai Police on Tuesday registered a case of fraud on Rapido and Uber bike taxi. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has lodged a complaint against the companies for illegally providing transport service without the permission of the state government.
A case has been registered against both companies under Section 318 (3) of BNS and sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. In April, RTO issued a notice to Rapido in the case. The Transport Commissioner ordered action on both app based aggregator. After this an FIR has been lodged.

The Karnataka government had decided to ban bike taxi services on 2 April.
Ola, Uber, Rapido bikes stopped in Karnataka from 16 June. The Karnataka High Court on June 13 justified the order of the state government. In this, bike taxi services like Rapido, Ola and Uber Moto were declared illegal. The next hearing of the case will be on 24 June.
The Karnataka government had decided to ban bike taxi services on 2 April. The move was taken after the Karnataka High Court’s order stated that two -wheelers with private number plates cannot be used for commercial service, as there is no clear rule for this.
The court also said that till the state government does not fix the rules related to license, insurance and safety for bike taxi under Section 3 of the Motor Vehicle Act, their operations will be considered illegal. Also, the court had instructed to shut down all services in six weeks and make rules in three months.
Case of discrimination in online taxi booking has reached Parliament
Earlier, the matter of collecting separate fare from iPhone and Android users on cab companies like Ola and Uber has reached Parliament. The central government told Parliament on March 12 that the matter has been taken seriously and investigation has been started.
In a survey conducted in January, different prices were seen on both operating systems for the same ride. Experts are calling it a case of ‘dark pattern’. This may include non-perfect changes, forced recovery and hidden fees in prices. Doing this is illegal under the consumer law.
