The Sri Shivakumar Swamiji Flyover — also called the Peenya Elevated Flyover — on Tumakuru Road (NH-4) is being fully closed to all vehicles. The 4.2-km-long, 15-metre-wide structure runs from Peenya to Nagasandra and is a crucial route for northbound traffic.

When Exactly Will It Be Closed?

The flyover will be shut from 5 am on Monday, April 13, to 11 am on Friday, April 17 — that’s over 100 hours of closure.

According to Deccan Heraldthis covers the entire stretch from the Kennametal Widia upper ramp to the SRS down ramp (CMTI Junction to Parle-G toll).

Why Is This Being Done?

The flyover, originally opened in 2010, faced safety concerns when prestressed cables in three spans failed due to corrosion, leading to a ban on buses and trucks from December 2021.

Over the past several months, around 1,422 cables were repaired and replaced. NHAI now needs to shut the flyover completely to conduct final load testing — essentially a strength check to confirm the repaired structure is safe for full use.

Which Roads Should I Use Instead?

Coming from Nelamangala into Bengaluru: Divert at Kennametal Widia ramp → take NH-4 surface/service road via 8th Mile → Dasarahalli → Jalahalli Cross → Peenya Police Station Junction → SRS Junction → Goraguntepalya.

Going from Bengaluru towards Nelamangala: Start from SRS Junction → Peenya Police Station Junction → Jalahalli Cross → Dasarahalli → 8th Mile → Parle-G toll.

What Should I Keep In Mind?

• Expect significant delays along Tumakuru Road all week.

• Leave home earlier than usual, especially during peak hours.

•After the tests, NHAI will decide on reopening the flyover to all vehicles.
