Bengaluru experienced a brief warm spell on Saturday, with night temperatures climbing sharply from around 12°C to 17.4°C, sparking concern among residents that winter may be ending early.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the temperature increase is temporary and does not mark the end of winter. Colder conditions are expected to return within the next two to three weeks in the state, including in Bengaluru.

The temporary warming is being caused by easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, which have brought increased moisture and cloud cover to the region. The clouds have reduced heat loss during the night, resulting in warmer minimum temperatures.
Multiple weather systems are affecting the area, including an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, a trough reaching Tamil Nadu, and another system impacting coastal Karnataka. These combined effects have led to overcast skies, warmer nights, and largely dry weather in Bengaluru and parts of south interior Karnataka.
While the capital experienced milder nights, central and northern districts of Karnataka continued to face intense cold and dense fog during late nights and early mornings. Mysuru, Mandya, and Chamarajanagar also recorded isolated rainfall over the past two days.
The rise in temperatures in Bengaluru comes as many places in north India continue to reel under severe cold. Haryana and Punjab recorded some of the lowest temperatures of the season, with Narnaul at 3°C, Bathinda and Faridkot at 4.5°C, and Chandigarh at 7.8°C.
