Bank Holiday Today: Are Banks Open Or Closed? Check State-Wise Status

Are Banks Open Today? If you’re planning to visit the bank today, Saturday, November 15, here’s what you should know — all banks will remain open. Today is the third Saturday of the month, and all banks stay open on third Saturdays. Since there is no festival or public holiday in any state on this date, bank branches across the country will operate as usual. So, if you have pending bank work, you can visit your branch without worry.

RBI Rules on Bank Holidays

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all banks remain closed on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Since tomorrow is the third Saturday, it is not a bank holiday, and branches will function normally.

All November Festivals Ended in the First Week

This year, major festivals such as Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath fell in late October. As a result, November has been relatively free of festivals. All significant celebrations wrapped up in the first week itself, and no state has a festival-related holiday this weekend. Banks are closed only on their scheduled weekly offs.

As per the RBI holiday calendar, there are no additional bank holidays for the rest of November, apart from the usual fourth Saturday and Sundays, when all banks remain closed.

What banking services can you use when branches are closed?

Even on bank holidays, customers can continue using a range of digital banking options:

  • Net banking and mobile banking remain fully operational unless notified otherwise.
  • ATMs are open for cash withdrawals.
  • UPI payments, fund transfers, and app-based banking services continue as usual.
  • Customers can initiate requests through NEFT/RTGS, apply for demand drafts, or use chequebook request forms online.
  • Services like credit/debit card applications, account maintenance, standing instructions, and locker applications can also be accessed digitally.

The RBI declares the annual bank holiday list under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which governs the use of cheques, drafts, and promissory notes. Transactions involving these instruments are unavailable on designated holidays.
