Assam vendor’s ‘Everywhere is dustbin’ reply to foreigner sparks civic sense debate

Sometimes, a single sentence can reveal a larger problem. When a Finnish YouTuber asked for a dustbin after eating a samosa in Assam, the vendor’s response, “Everywhere is dustbin”, quickly turned a casual moment into a viral debate.

The video was shared on Instagram by travel influencer Paduh Aki, who is currently exploring India with his wife and young daughter, Elina. In the clip, Paduh is seen enjoying a freshly prepared samosa at a local stall in Assam.

After finishing the snack, he politely asks the vendor where he can throw the wrapper. The vendor’s casual response, suggesting that the whole road served as a dustbin caught viewers’ attention for the wrong reasons.

While the remark appeared offhand, many online saw it as reflective of a deeper issue. The video soon made its way to X, where users expressed disappointment over what they described as a lack of civic responsibility.

Several pointed out that cleanliness is not solely the administration’s duty but also depends on individual behaviour. Some argued that no amount of government effort can compensate if people themselves do not change their habits.

“This happens because people are also very lazy and careless,” said an X user. “The ‘Everywhere is a dustbin’ mindset is exactly why we can’t have nice things. Imagine being proud of that,” said another.

Notably, Paduh did not follow the vendor’s suggestion. He ensured that the wrapper was disposed of in a proper dustbin nearby. This is not the first time the influencer has spoken about public cleanliness. In an earlier incident in Meghalayahe had corrected another tourist for littering on the streets.

Paduh Aki documents his travels across India on YouTube, where he shares cultural experiences, local interactions and family adventures.
