Artemis II Splashdown LIVE Updates: NASA’s Artemis-II mission, carrying four astronauts, began the final phase of its journey home after it completed its 10-day journey in space. The splashdown will take place at 8:07 pm EDT on April 10 ( 5:37 am IST on April 11) in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego, California.
Artemis II, humanity’s first crewed mission to the Moon’s neighbourhood since Apollo 17 in 1972, is a 10-day journey around the Moon and back. During their journey, the crew travelled thousands of miles past the moon and even witnessed a total solar eclipse from space.
On their last full day in space, the Artemis II crew began the morning with “Lonesome Drifter” by Charley Crockett as they approached Earth at 147,337 miles.
The four crew members- Americans Wiseman, Glover and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Jeremy Hansen- set a record for the farthest distance from Earth travelled by any humans during their lunar flyby, surpassing the mark set by the Apollo 13 crew in 1970. They took thousands of photographs and logged extensive observations over their 10-day mission.
