The Indian Army killed two terrorists on Thursday as they were attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The exchange of fire took place near Naushehra Naar, where alert soldiers engaged a group of infiltrators trying to cross into Indian territory, officials said.

Following the encounter in Bandipora, security forces launched a search operation in the area to ensure no additional infiltrators or suspicious movement remained undetected.

In a separate counter-terror offensive earlier this month, three terrorists were killed and a soldier injured during Operation Akhal, bringing the total number of militants eliminated under the mission to six.

The operation was initiated on August 1 after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of armed militants in the Akhal forest area.

A cordon-and-search mission was launched, which escalated into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on advancing troops.

The gun battle continued intermittently, with forces pausing operations overnight and resuming at first light on August 2, ultimately leading to the killing of three more terrorists.

According to officials, high-tech surveillance equipment and elite paramilitary units were deployed as part of the operation.

Those neutralised were identified as members of The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The TRF had previously claimed responsibility for the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
