Now Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology will be used to deal with the menace of bears and leopards in Pithoragarh district. Forest Department has made the district a model for this new initiative.

AI powered devices will be installed in those areas of the district where the movement of bears is continuously increasing. With the help of these devices, not only will the activities of wildlife be monitored, but arrangements have also been made to drive them away from populated areas.
There is an atmosphere of panic across Uttarakhand due to wildlife attacks in recent months. At such a time, this AI based system starting from Pithoragarh can become a big relief and future model for the hilly districts.
AI camera will recognize bear and leopard
High quality cameras will be installed in the AI powered device, which will continuously keep an eye on the forest and populated areas. This camera can capture the activity of any large wildlife at a distance of 100 to 150 meters. The camera must have been previously taught to identify bears and leopards. As soon as these animals come within the range of the camera, the device itself will understand that it can become a threat to humans.
The device will give alert as soon as the animal is seen
As soon as a bear or leopard is trapped in the camera, the AI system will be activated immediately. There will be no need for any employee for this. The speaker installed in the device will make a loud sound. This sound will not be normal, but will be such that these wildlife get scared and move away from that area.
The device has a camera on one side and a speaker on the other side, through which an alert will be sent.
The device itself will also produce stinky spray
Some AI devices will also be equipped with a special smelling spray. If a bear or leopard comes too close, the device will automatically release this spray into the air. The animals do not like the smell of this spray, so they leave that place and avoid coming there again.
Will send alert on mobile also
The AI device will be connected to the mobile phones of forest department officials. As soon as the presence of an animal is registered in any area, the officials will immediately get information through message. After this alert, the forest department team can reach the spot or alert the people of nearby villages in advance, so that any untoward incident can be prevented.
DFO said- wildlife attacks will reduce
Pithoragarh DFO Ashutosh Singh said that AI technology is being used to reduce human-wildlife conflict. In the first phase, it has been decided to install five devices in the bear affected areas of Dharchula. The devices are currently being assembled and will soon be installed in the affected areas.
