Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor raised concerns about her treatment by a security guard during the closing moments of the recent Academy Awards ceremony, prompting responses from both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the security firm involved.
The incident was captured in social media footage, where Taylor can be heard objecting to the guard’s behaviour and asking not to be touched or shoved. “A man putting your hands on a female you’re very rude,” she is heard saying in the clip, adding, “He literally shoved me. Do not touch me, do not shove me.”
Responding to the incident, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said it was “extremely upset” to learn what had transpired. In a statement to Entertainment Weeklythe Academy emphasised that while the interaction involved an external security vendor, guest experience remains its responsibility.
“We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind and all about community,” the statement read, adding that the behaviour was “not acceptable” and appropriate steps were being taken to prevent a recurrence.
The security firm involved, Security Industry Specialists, Inc., acknowledged the incident, describing it as a “brief interaction” that involved “incidental contact”. The company added that the situation did not reflect its professional standards and had been addressed internally.

Speaking to TMZ after the ceremony, Taylor maintained that she does not tolerate “disrespect”, particularly when “unwarranted and unprovoked”. She also dismissed speculation surrounding the moment, saying she was “proud” and “happy” despite the episode.
Separately, the singer-actor addressed another viral Oscars moment – her enthusiastic support when Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons. Reflecting on reactions online, Taylor said many people are unaccustomed to “winning with grace” or celebrating others’ success.
She also clarified her playful on-stage interaction with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson while presenting Best Picture, describing it as an “inside joke”.
Teyana Taylor was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in One Battle After Another. However, she lost the award to Amy Madigan, who won for Weapons.
