The Rajasthan High Court has announced the cancellation of the Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam held in 2021. This exam was marred by allegations of paper leaks and dummy candidates right from the start, leading to the issue reaching the High Court. Consequently, the court has now nullified the exam.
In 2021, the Rajasthan government issued recruitment notifications for 859 Sub Inspector (SI) positions. Thousands of young individuals applied and took the exam, but soon after, doubts arose about the recruitment process. Investigations into the exam revealed issues such as paper leaks and dummy candidates, putting the entire process under scrutiny. The scandal was extensive, prompting an investigation that ensnared many individuals.
Rajasthan SI Recruitment Row: What Was The Controversy?
During the SI recruitment exam, it was discovered that the paper had been leaked and some individuals were attempting to secure jobs using dummy candidates. The government then tasked the Special Operations Group (SOG) with investigating the matter, uncovering significant flaws in the system. Following these revelations, many candidates demanded the exam’s cancellation, while some selected individuals tried to save it, arguing that their hard-earned positions should not be revoked due to the misconduct of a few.
As the investigation progressed, various revelations came to light, leading to the arrest of 150 people in connection with the SI recruitment exam. Among the arrested were 50 trainee sub-inspectors and 2 members of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). Despite these substantial actions, the issue remained unresolved, eventually reaching the High Court.
The controversy escalated to the High Court. In February 2025, the court gave the government two months to decide on the recruitment. However, the government missed the May 5 deadline. Consequently, the court extended the deadline to May 15, warning that it would make a decision if the government failed to respond. Frustrated with the government’s delay, the High Court took a stern stance and ultimately cancelled the examination.
In response, selected candidates and their family members held a press conference, expressing their discontent. At Jaipur’s Pink City Press Club, they argued that cancelling the recruitment after five years was unjust. Among the 523 candidates, 40 are employed with the central government, 396 with the state government, and 87 with special forces like the SOG. They contended that cancelling the recruitment would cause significant losses and demanded a fair investigation to punish only the guilty parties.

With the cancellation, the government will need to initiate a new recruitment process, requiring candidates to prepare anew. This decision will also impact the SI 2025 recruitment. Recently, the court allowed over age candidates to apply for 1015 SI posts in 2025, offering some relief, but it poses a setback for the selected candidates of 2021, leaving their future uncertain. The Rajasthan SI recruitment exam consisted of 200 marks questions.
