According to the new rule:
- Foreign students and cultural guests will get a visa of up to 4 years.
- Foreign journalists will get 240 days and Chinese journalists will get 90 days visa, but they can apply for more time.
In 2024, there were about 16 lakh foreign students, 3.55 lakh cultural guests and 13 thousand journalists in the US. The government says that this rule is to prevent the abuse of visa and increase security.
He says that the old rule was harmful for American citizens and burdened the government. The rule was also brought in Trump’s first term in 2020, but it was opposed by many teacher organizations at that time.
