Stock Market Holiday Today: Indian equity and commodity markets are closed on Wednesday, August 27, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. This mid-week closure is the second trading holiday of the month, after markets remained shut on August 15 for India’s 79th Independence Day.
Trading Status
- BSE and NSE will remain closed today across all segments – equities, equity derivatives, and the Securities Lending & Borrowing (SLB) framework.
- Normal trading will resume on Thursday, August 28.
Commodity Market Schedule
- The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain shut during the morning session but reopen for evening trade. Operations will resume in the evening session from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.
- The National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), India’s top agricultural contracts platform, will remain closed for the entire day.
Global Market Update
Overnight, the S&P 500 closed higher, supported by Nvidia and Eli Lilly, even as U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to fire a central bank governor renewed concerns about the Federal Reserve’s independence.
In Asia, equities opened mixed on Wednesday as investors awaited Nvidia’s earnings, which are expected to set the tone for global markets after the rally seen since April.
