वर्ल्ड अपडेट्स: फिजी के प्रधानमंत्री राबुका भारत दौरे पर पहुंचे, मोदी और राष्ट्रपति से करेंगे मुलाकात करेंगे

Fiji’s Prime Minister Cityweni Ligamamada Rabuka arrived in New Delhi on a four -day visit to India on Sunday. He is accompanied by his wife Suluveti Rabuka.

He was welcomed by Union Minister of State for Education Sukant Majumdar at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Rabuka will pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on 25 August. He will then meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. MOU will be signed between the two countries here and a joint press statement will also be released. Rabuka will also meet President Draupadi Murmu.

On August 26, the Prime Minister of Fiji will deliver a lecture at a program organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs. His visit will end on 27 August.

India and Fiji have a relationship since the 19th century. Between 1879 and 1916, about 60 thousand Indian laborers (Girmitia) went to work in sugarcane orchards.

In 1920, this Girmit system ended. Prior to Fiji’s independence (1970), India appointed Commissioner there in 1948, which later got the status of High Commissioner.
