On the occasion of renewable Energy Day, India’s leading important minerals, transition metals, energy and technology House Vedanta Limited (NSE: VEDL) has announced that the company has used more than 250 crore or 2.5 billion units renewable energy during the financial year 25.
The use of renewable energy in FY 2024 was 160 crore (or 1.6 billion) units, which shows an increase of more than 1.6 times in consumption. Renewable Energy Day is organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to raise awareness about renewable energy.
This includes various types of renewable energy such as solar power, wind power, hydro power (solar, wind and water energy) and other sources of clean energy. In the first quarter of the financial year 26, the company used about 850 million units of renewable energy, indicating rapidly towards green energy transformation.
Increasing his renewable footprint, Vedanta has made a 1.9 GW of power delivery agreement, which will be implemented in the coming few years. It is expected that this capacity will reduce emissions in the company’s core business.
Vedanta’s subsidiary businesses such as Zinc Limited and Balco (Bharat Aluminum Company Limited) have already started receiving renewable energy, while other plants in India will soon receive it. The company also produces renewable energy, its subsidiary Hindustan Zinc is one of the largest wind power producers in the country, which has a capacity of 273.5 MW in 5 states.
Vedanta also uses biomass in her power plants. In the financial year 25, the company used 6.5 lakh giga joule energy from biomass. Biomass is a type of renewable energy, which is obtained from natural waste materials.
This reduces dependence on fossil fuels and reduces carbon emissions. This is equal to the annual requirement of electricity of about 50,000 houses across the country. Vedanta’s power company and North India’s largest private thermal power producer Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) has established Punjab’s largest torrent bio-polyttens manufacturing unit near the 1980 MW plant in Mansa.
Vedanta’s own disorganization plan works on four principles- increasing the measure of renewable energy, turning to low carbon fuel, energy and process efficiency and carbon offset. Using renewable energy, the company produced India’s first low carbon-green aluminum-Restora and Restora Ultra and Asia’s first low carbon ‘Green’ Zinc-ecozen.
