NDA Vice Presidential candidate CP Radhakrishnan will nominate at 11 am today. He will be accompanied by about 160 members, including 20 proposer and 20 supporters. Elections for the post of Vice President are scheduled on 9 September.

His name was agreed in the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting held on August 17. BJP President JP Nadda announced the name of Radhakrishnan by holding a press conference.

He will face the retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy of the Supreme Court. The special thing is that both the candidates are from South. Reddy will enroll on 21 August.

Voting will be held on 9 September for the Vice Presidential election. There will also be counting on the same day. The last date for filing nomination is 21 August. Candidates can be withdrawn by 25 August.

In fact, the Vice President is being elected due to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation on the night of 21 July. The tenure of 74 -year -old Dhankar was till 10 August 2027.

Retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy Vice President Candidate of Opposition

India has nominated retired Justice B Sudarshan Reddy from the Supreme Court on August 19 for the Vice Presidential election. He will face NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan.

The 79 -year -old Reddi has been the Chief Justice of the Guwahati High Court and the first Lokayukta of Goa. He hails from Andhra Pradesh. In 2007, a judge of the Supreme Court was appointed.

The special thing is that both the candidates are from South. Retired Justice Reddy is from Andhra Pradesh, while CP Radhakrishnan is from Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan will file nominations on 20 while Reddy will file nominations on 21 August.

NDA candidate decided to win

Lok Sabha The total number of MPs in is 542. One seat is vacant. NDA has 293 MPs. There itself, Rajya Sabha I have 245 MPs. 5 seats are vacant. The NDA has 129 MPs. Assuming that the members enrolled for the Vice President will also vote in favor of the NDA candidate.

  • The first electoral list is formed for the Vice President’s election. It consists of all elected and nominated members (MPs) of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha has 233 elected MPs and 12 enrolled MPs. The Lok Sabha has 543 MPs. That is, the total number of MPs is 788. Currently, 5 seats in Rajya Sabha and one seat in Lok Sabha are vacant. Therefore, this number will be 782 in the electoral college. In this way, the Vice Presidential election victory will require the support of 391 MPs (50%).
  • The Election Commission announced the dates for the Vice President’s election on 1 August. The notification will be released on 7 August. Nomination starts as soon as the notification is issued. Its last date is 21 August. Candidate can withdraw nomination on 25 August.
  • The candidate must be proposed by at least 20 MPs. Apart from this, the support of 20 MPs is also needed.
  • Only MPs are voters in elections. Therefore, this publicity is in a limited range. Candidates and their supporters are involved in campaigning.
  • Every MP ticks the candidates on the ballot in order of priority (1, 2, 3 …). Voting takes place only when more than one candidate is in the fray. Otherwise, when a candidate is a candidate, the candidate wins the election unopposed.
  • The result comes only after voting. The reason for this is that 782 members of both houses vote. They are counted in a few hours. For victory, a majority of total valid votes i.e. more than 50% is to be obtained. The results are then declared. This time voting will take place on September 9 between 10 am to 5 am.
