US President Trump and Russian President Putin met in Alaska late Friday night to talk on Ukraine Jung.

Russian President Putin laid a condition to end the Ukraine war during a conversation with Trump in Alaska. According to the Financial Times, he said that if Ukraine removes his army from Eastern Donetsk, he will consider ending the war.

Putin also indicated that if his demands are met, he can prevent his army from moving forward on the rest of the fronts. According to the report, Trump, after a conversation, called the President of Ukraine, Jailonsky and European leaders and informed about the demand of Putin.

Indeed, the case of Donnetsk has been disputed for a long time. Russia has been controlling parts of this area for the last ten years. If the condition of Putin is accepted, they will get the entire possession of that area.

Putin said- Ukraine should not join NATO

The report also stated that Putin is making another proposal in lieu of Donnetsk. He has said that if he finds this area, he will stabilize his front in Kherason and Japorijia areas of southern Ukraine. This would mean that his army will not try to hold new attacks and occupy the land there.

However, Putin has also made it clear to Trump that his most important condition to end the struggle is still intact. He says that NATO should not move towards anymore. That is, Ukraine should not be allowed to join NATO.

Putin said that if he is confident of it, he will be ready to compromise on other issues.

Russia occupies 70% area of Donnetsk

The situation at the moment is that Russia controls about 70 percent of Donnetsk. Ukraine still has some large cities in the western part of the region, which are considered important for its army and security strategy.

On the other hand, Ukraine President Volodimir Jailonsky has clearly stated that he will not accept any kind of ‘land exchange’ with Russia. He said that the second division of Ukraine would not be acceptable under any circumstances. Jailonsky will meet Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, where the issue may arise.

Donnetsk is an area of the eastern part of Ukraine, which is considered part of the Donbas region. This area is known for coal mines and heavy industries and was economically counted among the most rich parts of Ukraine.

Ukraine was in possession of Ukraine till 2014

Till 2014, Donetsk was under complete control of Ukraine. The same year Russia captured Crimea after which Russia rescues in the Donbas region (Donnetsk and Luhansk). Since then, there is a continuous fighting here.

Russia -backed rebels currently occupy a large part of Donnetsk. He declared himself a separate country ‘Donnetsk Peoples Republic’ (DPR). However, apart from Russia, only a few countries recognize it.

In 2022, when Russia started a major attack on Ukraine, Donnetsk became a war zone. The Russian army and separatists gradually captured the region. Today’s situation is that Russia controls about 70% of Donnetsk, while Ukraine has some cities and towns left on the western side.

Geographically and strategically Donnetsk is extremely important as Russia can easily pressurize the rest of Ukraine from here. It is also economically important due to industry and mineral resources. The capture of Donnetsk means that Russia will have a strong position on the eastern front of Ukraine.
