An Indian citizen from Punjab was arrested in the United States on charges of possessing child pornography, triggering a massive political uproar over his links to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in the state.
Pictures of the man – identified as realtor and investor Gurjeet Singh Malhi – with a cross-section of politicians surfaced on social media platforms Facebook and X. Launching an attack, the BJP and Congress shared the pictures, which he purportedly got clicked with leaders of various parties like the AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) among others.
The BJP and Congress have demanded answers from the AAP about its connection to Malhi, who was arrested for the alleged possession of child pornography by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Seattle.

The US ICE Seattle said Malhi, 42, was arrested during a joint federal law enforcement action. He has been charged by local authorities of possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), commonly known as child porn.
The US ICE Seattle had announced Malhi’s arrest on July 11. But, soon after his arrest, BJP and Congress leaders from Punjab shared photos of him with AAP that have gone viral.
A report by NDTV said Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Facebook, asking for an explanation.
“What is the connection of his family with a shameful criminal like NRI Gurjeet Malhi…” Khaira was quoted. “Other leaders of AAP like speaker Kultar Sandhwan, finance minister Harpal Cheema etc, should explain what is the connection of these leaders with such despicable criminals.”
Malhi purportedly got clicked with SAD president and former deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal as well. The BJP was not far behind, with its Chandigarh unit posing questions over Malhi’s photos with AAP leaders.
“When will AAP’s so-called ‘revolutionaries’ answer these serious questions?” it asked in a post on X, in which there are pictures of Malhi posing with Mann’s family members.

The ruling AAP in Punjab has not yet responded to the allegations made by the BJP and Congress.
