The suspended principal of Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Odisha’s Balasore district was on Monday arrested in connection with a 20-year-old student setting herself ablaze on campus.
According to the police, accused Dilip Ghosh was booked for abetting the student’s attempted death by suicide. He was suspended on July 12 after her self-immolation bid outside his office over allegedly being denied justice over “sexual harassment” by a teacher.
The state higher education department appointed Firoj Padhi as the new principal of the college. The prime accused in the sexual harassment case, HoD Samira Kumar Sahu, was arrested on July 12.
Officials said the college student is battling for her life with 95 percent burns, at the AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The self-immolation incident triggered statewide outrage on Sunday (July 13) with the opposition parties staging protests, demanding the resignation of the state higher education minister.
