Sneha, a resident of Tripura, lived in the environment complex in South Delhi.

The body of 19 -year -old Sneha Debnath, studying at Delhi University, was recovered from the Yamuna River on Sunday evening. Sneha was originally from Sabroom, Tripura and lived in the environment complex area in Mehrauli, South Delhi.

She was missing since the morning of 7 July. Sneha’s body was found in the river under the Geeta Colony flyover on Sunday evening. Sneha’s family has identified her body. The body has been sent for postmortem. In this case a case has been registered at Mehrauli police station.

According to DCP Ankit Chauhan of South Delhi, Sneha was a B.Sc student at Soul Ram Sanatan Dharma College of Delhi University. A family friend told the news agency PTI that Sneha had last called her mother at 5.56 am on 7 July.

Sneha had told that she will go to Sarai Rohilla railway station to meet a friend. Then his phone stopped. When Sneha’s family called her friend, she told that Sneha did not come to meet her.

Sneha had left a note, in which she had informed about the jumping from the Signature Bridge on the Yamuna river.

Sneha’s last location was found on Signature Bridge During the investigation, Sneha’s last location was found on the Signature Bridge in Majnu Ka Tila. During interrogation, a cab driver said that he left Sneha on the Signature Bridge on 7 July.

Some people said that they saw a girl standing on the bridge. Since then NDRF and local police were looking for Sneha in the Yamuna river from Delhi to Noida.

Police said that Sneha had also left a hand written note, in which he had informed about the jump from the Signature Bridge on the Yamuna river.

Sneha was the daughter of retired Subedar Major Lieutenant Pritish Debnath. Sneha’s father is struggling with chronic kidney failure and is being treated through dialysis.

According to the news agency PTI, close friends of Sneha said that Sneha was a promising and ambitious girl. But she was upset for the last few months. He also sent emails and messages to his friends on the morning of 7 July.

A family friend said that Sneha had not withdrawn money from her bank account for the last four months. On July 7, after calling her mother, she left the house without taking any goods with her.

Family allegations- CCTV cameras were not turned on the Signature Bridge Sneha’s family and friends alleged that no CCTV camera was operational on and around the Signature Bridge on the day of the incident. The family said in a statement that suicide incidents often occur on the Signature Bridge. Despite this, not a single CCTV camera works on the bridge or surrounding areas.

The family said, ‘This is not just a case of Sneha. This is a case of safety of every student and citizen coming to Delhi. The bridge falls in the area of 4-5 different police stations. Due to this, everyone avoids taking responsibility.
