Indian wrestlers scripted history on Sunday as the men’s freestyle team clinched six gold and a silver to finish with the nation’s best ever showing at the U23 Asian Asian Wrestling Championship in Vung Tau, Vietnam.
Nikhil, Sujeet Kalkal, Jaideep, Chander Mohan, Sachin and Vicky claimed the yellow metal while Jaspooran Singh grabbed the silver.

Winning the gold were Nikhil bagged the gold in the 61kg category, while Kalkal topped the 65kg event. Jaideep further added to the Indian tally in the 74kg category, before Mohan stood tall in the 79kg section. Sachin added another gold in the 92kg category while Vicky rounded off the golden galore in the 97kg. Jaspooran added to the India’s record tally at the event with the silver medal in the 125kg weight class. The coutnry’s Greco Roman team also won three medals, including a gold in an unprecedented showing.
The Indian men’s unit success doubles down on the astounding showing the nation’s women’s contingent produced at the event with at least a medal in each of the ten categories in an unprecedented moment.
