The interim government of Bangladesh on Tuesday ended the status of ‘Father of the Nation’ of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s father and first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. For this, an ordinance was issued and the word ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ was removed from the law.
Along with this, the definition of freedom fighter and struggle of 1971 has also been changed. Recently, on June 1, Mohammad Yunus’s government has also removed the picture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the new currency notes.
Photos of Hindu and Buddhist temples will also be printed on new notes. However, old notes and coins will also remain in trend.

Freedom fighter status to those taking training in India
Under the new definition of freedom fighter, between 26 March to 16 December 1971, the citizens who prepared for the war, participated in training camps in India, took up arms against the Pakistani Army and their allies, would be considered a freedom fighter.
Under the new definition, the armed forces, East Pakistan Rifles (EPR), police, Muktibahini, Mujibnagar government and its recognized armies, Naval Commandos, Kg Force and Ansar members have also been included in the freedom fighter category.
The women (Veerangana) by the Pakistani Army and their allies during the war will also be considered a freedom fighter. Along with this, doctors, nurses and medical assistants who treat the injured Bangla fighters during the war will also be considered freedom fighters.
Change in definition of freedom struggle
Earlier it was said that the freedom struggle started on the appeal of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Now his name has been removed in the new definition. It is now defined as an armed struggle that lasted from 26 March to 16 December 1971.
This struggle was fought by the people of Bangladesh to establish a democratic country based on equality, human dignity and social justice.

There was also a big change in text books in January
The current government of Bangladesh made a major change in the country’s text books in January. It has been told in the new books that in 1971, Bangladesh was given independence from Pakistan, not by Mujibur Rahman but Jiaur Rahman.
Ziaur Rahman was the husband of former Bangladesh President Khaleda Zia. He became the Co-Army Chief after the independence of Bangladesh. Later he also became the President of the country. In 1981, he was murdered by some army people.
The controversy over Bangladesh’s declaration of independence has always been disputed in Bangladesh as to who announced independence there. The Awami League claims that the announcement was made by ‘Bangabandhu’ Mujibur Rahman, while the BNP party of Khaleda Zia credits its founder Ziaur Rahman.
Attack on many signs related to Sheikh Mujib
Sheikh Mujib’s associated signs were constantly attacked since the coup in Bangladesh in August 2024. His statue in Dhaka was broken and the nemplate in many public places was also removed.
The interim government had also canceled 8 government holidays of freedom and the days associated with the founder. Sheikh Mujiburrahman was the first President of Bangladesh. He was also the Prime Minister of the country from 17 April 1971 to 15 August 1975.
Mujibur Rahman, father of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also played a big role in bringing Bangladesh independence from Pakistan. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was murdered on 15 August 1975 at his house.

In August 2024, the statue of Sheikh Mujib was broken in Dhaka.
Sheikh Hasina has been living in India for last 10 months
Sheikh Hasina left the country on 5 August last year and came to India. Actually, students were protesting against him.
On June 5 in Bangladesh, the High Court implemented a 30% quota system in the job, protesting the students of universities in Dhaka against this reservation.
This reservation was being given to the families of freedom fighters. However, this reservation was later abolished by the Hasina government.
After this, students started protesting demanding his resignation. A large number of students and common people took to the road against Hasina and her government.
Two months after this Protest, he resigned as Prime Minister on 5 August. After this the interim government was established.

After violent demonstrations, Sheikh Hasina left the country and came to India sitting in a helicopter.
