Amit Shah arrived in Jammu and Kashmir today evening amid tight security arrangements on a two-day visit to review the security situation in the union territory.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at Raj Bhavan to review security and administrative preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra in Jammu.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, senior officials of the army, paramilitary forces, police, intelligence agencies and civil administration attended the meeting, news agency PTI reported.

“Chaired a review meeting for the Amarnath Pilgrimage and evaluated the security arrangements and preparedness meant for the pilgrims. Instructed to maintain the utmost vigilance and ensure the seamless completion of the sacred journey. Central govt and J&K administration will leave no stone unturned to facilitate the pilgrims with all necessary facilities,” Shah said in a post on X.

Shah arrived in Jammu and Kashmir today evening amid tight security arrangements on a two-day visit to review the security situation in the union territory and reach out to shelling-hit affected people in Poonch, officials said.

Shah was received by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the Jammu airport. This is the Union Minister’s first visit to Jammu after Operation Sindoor.

Amit Shah’s 2-Day Itinerary

During his two-day visit, Shah will visit religious places, meet shelling-hit people and the BSF personnel in Poonch, which recorded the highest number of 14 civilian deaths among the total 28 lives lost in the Pakistani shelling and drone attacks during the skirmishes between May 7 and 10, officials said as quoted by the news agency.

Toady he held security meetings at Raj Bhavan in Jammu. After a night stay in Jammu, Shah will fly to Poonch and interact with shelling-hit families. He will visit damaged religious places, including Singh Sabha Gurdwara and hold a meeting with officers to assess the damage in the worst-hit district, officials said.

The minister will also visit the Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Poonch and interact with the jawans. He is also expected to address the civilians affected by Pakistani shelling at Dak Bungalow and the BSF soldiers at their Unit Headquarters at Khanetar.

This will be the Home minister’s third visit to Jammu and Kashmir since April 6 and first after Operation Sindoor. After conducting a three-day tour on April 6, Shah again visited Kashmir on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam attack.

Operation Sinodoor

India launched “precision strikes” under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides.
