In the two-minute clip, Shashi Tharoor responds to a fan’s compliment on his appearance and intelligence.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has a separate fanbase altogther. This includes people infatuated by his looks, those mesmerised by his English; and yet a third group that opposes his views, but still can’t afford to ignore him. A recent video going viral on social media is a proof of his popularity that goes beyond politics.
In the two-minute clip, a woman, who seems to be a college-goers, asks Shashi Tharoor“…Sir, please explain yourself how can someone be so astonishingly good looking and charismatic, and even more implausibly brilliant and intelligent at the same time? Sir please spill some secrets.”
Tharoor laughs and says, “…There are things you can’t help. And there are things that you can change yourself to do. So the way you look at all of that, honestly, all I can say is choose your parents wisely. It’s all in the genes. But everything else, you should work at it.”
The Congress leader continues, “I mean, I must say that reading, as I explained earlier, became a habit in childhood. I’ve kept it up and therefore I’ve read a lot. So I think I know a lot beause I have retained a lot of what I have read.”
Tharoor mentioned that he’s proud to admit that it wasn’t always easy speaking fluently before a bunch of strangers, speaking before an audience. “But once you’ve done it often enough, you develop the confidence, and particularly when you know that your ideas are clear and it’s a question of expressing them before people, then that’s something you get to do. But you have to practice it by doing it…,” Tharoor adds.
The clip, which has received over a lakh views so far, is said to be of 2023. According to Grok, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by xAI, the video was recorded during Tharoor’s visit to Nagaland for assembly election campaigning.
“It was shared on March 6, 2023, where he responds to a fan’s compliment on his appearance and intelligence,” the chatbot stated.

A user, @vsukhtha, wrote: “With the recent Post war times, ShashiJi has got a lot of appreciation with his fluent statements than most of his peers and impressive desh bhakt sentiments.Hope he uses them intelligently and leaves his current party and tactfully take the right decision forward @ShashiTharoor (sic).”
