A 30-year-old woman and her 19-year-old boyfriend have been arrested for allegedly raping and killing the woman’s two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
The incident came to light after the girl was taken to a government hospital in Mumbai’s Malvani Jankalyan Nagar.
The doctor who checked the girl and declared her dead found injuries to the girl’s private parts during the medical examination. He then informed the police about the incident, Mid Day reported.
The Lamvani police filed an FIR against the woman and her boyfriend based on the medical reports. The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including the charges rape, murder and POCSO.
“The accused woman and the 19-year-old accused boy were allegedly in a relationship. It has also come to light that the woman was divorced three years ago after her husband had left her when she was pregnant. She gave birth to a girl and had been living at her mother’s house ever since she developed a relationship with the accused boy,” Mid Day quoted a police official as saying.
“Last night, the accused raped the girl in front of her mother. The girl was screaming with pain, and later she died,” the official added.
Following the incident, the child was rushed to the hospital, where the woman at first tried to mislead the doctors, saying her daughter was suffering from epilepsy.
However, the doctor informed the police, who later filed a complaint based on the medical evaluation report.
