Ruthless obliteration would be the only apt way to describe India’s walloping of the South Koreans, as the hosts secured their win with a margin of over 150 points.

The Indian women’s team, led by Priyanka Ingle, was aching to recreate the dream start their male counterparts had achieved on Monday. They sure achieved the same and much more as India completely obliterated South Korea in their tournament opener, securing a cold-hearted 175-18 win at the Kho Kho World Cup 2025 in New Delhi on Tuesday.
It was nothing short of mayhem for the South Koreans, as India ran out 15 whole batches of their defenders at one go on Turn 2 itself, to humiliate the visitors with no mercy.
India won the toss, electing to defend first, allowing the Koreans to display their attacking arsenal firsthand.
Chaithra, Ingle, and Meenu started the proceedings, taking to the mat for Turn 1 against the South Koreans, who seemed sluggish out the gate, struggling to capture any Indian defenders. They finally opened their account by capturing Chaithra after a minute had elapsed on the clock.
A determined Meenu though would survive the onslaught, surviving for a whopping three and a half minutes by herself, eating up half of the Turn to the Koreans’ misery.
Magi, Nasreen Shaikh, and Reshma Rathod would be the next batch of Indian defenders deployed. The trio would indeed run the rest of the clock out, helping India secure their second Dream Run, as the Turn came to an end with the scores touted at 2-10.
Sensing blood in the water, India would come into Turn 2, with the sheer aim of depleting the slender lead of the Koreans, and they would go on to achieve the same in some fashion.
Kim, Baek, and Cho, the first batch of Korean defenders would be run out in just about 35 seconds, as India set the tone for the rest of the Turn to come. Another set of defenders would be run out in the next 39 seconds that followed, and another one in the next 12 seconds, as the Koreans crumbled.
India proved to be too quick, too wily for the Koreans to keep up, as a dominant home side racked up the points in a flurry. Before they knew it, it was nothing short of a bloodbath as the Koreans went down 44-10 with over half of Turn 2 left on the clock.
Ultimately, India took an insurmountable lead of 94-10 at the halfway mark, as Indian attackers scored points at will with ease, eliminating 15 whole batches of defenders in one Turn 2.
The punishment would only continue for the visitors, who would claim only a measly 8 points in Turn 3, as India loomed over South Korea in an utterly bullying fashion with a scoreline of 97-18.
In nothing but a move of utter humiliation for the Koreans, Turn 4 ensued that insult was added to injury for the visitors, who were ruthlessly hunted down by the Indians, who ended up winning the bout by a margin of more than 150 points, as the scoreline read 175-18 when all was said and done.
The women’s team shall resume their campaign on Wednesday when they take on Iran.
