The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of the NEET PG 2024 result transparency case to January 21, 2025. The hearing was initially scheduled for today, January 8, but the bench of Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih informed the advocates that the case would be addressed next week.
Despite lawyers urging the court to prioritise the case and citing that further delays could affect the students, the bench decided to postpone it.
Yesterday, while hearing the matter, Justice Gavai said that the court is unlikely to order a new round of counselling. “Just ask someone to mention the matter tomorrow. If counselling is over, we will dispose of the matter. It’s not that we will order fresh counselling,” he said.
NEET PG 2024 result controversy began after the results were announced on August 23, 2024. Students raised concerns about the transparency of the exam process and questioned the practices of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
Recently, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has lowered the qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2024, making it easier for candidates across all categories to participate in the counselling process. This decision, taken by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in consultation with the National Medical Commission (NMC), brings much-needed relief to aspirants.
Under the new guidelines, general and EWS category candidates now need a percentile of 15, while SC, ST, OBC, and PwD category students must score 10 percentile or higher to be eligible. Previously, the cut-off was 50th for unreserved categories, 45th for PwD candidates, and 40th for reserved category students.
