- 5 Indian Films Shortlisted Including Bobby Deol’s Kanguva, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, Missing Ladies Out Of Oscar Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the list of shortlisted films for Oscar 2025. 5 Indian films are included in this list of 232 films. 207 out of 232 films have been shortlisted for the Best Film category. Among the shortlisted films from India, there are some films which flopped badly at the box office.
Films will get final nomination on the basis of voting.
Voting will be held among all the 232 shortlisted films, after which they will get the final nomination at Oscars 2025. Voting will start from January 8 and continue till January 12. After this, the final list of nominated films will be released by the Academy of Motion Picture on January 17.
Missing ladies out of Oscar race
The film Lapata Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, was also sent to the Oscars, however, this film has been excluded from the list of final shortlisted films.
Flopped at the box office, but Kanguva reached the Oscars.
The film Kanguva, made with a big budget of Rs 350 crore, has been shortlisted for the Oscars. This film could only earn around Rs 100 crore at the box office. Surya, Disha Patani, Bobby Deol were in important roles in the film. After its theatrical release, the film was streamed on Amazon Prime.
Trade expert Manobala has announced the shortlist of Kanguva along with the list.
Randeep Hooda’s Swatantra Veer Savarkar also in Oscar race
Randeep Hooda starrer film Swatantra Veer Savarkar, released on 22 March 2024, has also been shortlisted for Oscar 2025. This film based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was in controversies for many reasons.
Missed the Golden Globe, but reached the Oscars for All We Imagine as Light
Recently, the film All We Imagine as Light, directed by Payal Kapadia, was nominated in the Best Film (Non-English) category at the Golden Globes. Although this film missed winning the award. Now this film has been shortlisted for Oscar. Earlier the film has received an award at the Cannes Film Festival.
