The International Court of Justice (ICJ) made an important announcement on Friday, saying that Israel has been illegally occupying Palestinian territories for decades and it should be ended as soon as possible. Israel occupied the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip after defeating Arab countries in 1967. The ICJ has made this comment regarding these areas.

ICJ said that Israel has misused its power and taken away the rights of Palestinians. It is violating international laws. Israel should compensate the Palestinians for ruling these areas for so many years.

According to the Times of Israel report, after the ICJ decision, the Israelis settled in the West Bank became angry. They set fire to the Palestinian-populated village of Burin near the West Bank. At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected this decision and called it a ‘false decision’.

Netanyahu said that no decision of the ICJ will be able to deny this historical truth. At the request of the United Nations General Assembly, the ICJ had convened a week-long session in February to hear arguments from various countries on ‘Israeli occupation’. In this, many countries had appealed to Israel to abandon the 57-year-old occupation.

11 out of 15 judges ruled against Israel
There are 15 judges in the ICJ, out of which 11 judges ruled against Israel. According to a Reuters report, this decision of the ICJ is only an advice which Israel cannot be forced to follow. However, Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour expressed happiness over this decision and thanked the ICJ.

He said that he will read all the details related to this decision and on the basis of this, he will present a better proposal in the United Nations General Assembly.

Ben Gvir said – it is necessary to occupy the rest of the West Bank
After this decision, Itamar Ben Gvir, leader of the party that is an ally of PM Netanyahu’s government, issued a statement. He said that Israel should occupy the rest of the West Bank in response to this decision.

Israel’s Energy Minister Eli Cohen said on social media that this is the land of our ancestors. We prayed for 2000 years to come here and then we got this place. ICJ is an anti-Jewish court. Its decision will not affect us one bit. He called Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 a mistake and said that Israel will not repeat the same mistake by leaving the West Bank.
