Central Pollution Control Board said – Cloud seeding is not effective in Delhi The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has said that artificial rain i.e. cloud seeding will not be effective as an emergency measure to control pollution in North India. This is because there is not enough moisture in the air for cloud seeding. Additionally, cloud seeding requires reliance on already existing clouds.
IIT Kanpur had proposed to CPCB to conduct cloud seeding to control pollution in Delhi. CPCB has said this in response to this proposal. This has been revealed through an RTI. An activist named Amit Gupta had made this RTI inquiry on October 24, the answer to which has now come out.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in its response said that according to IIT Kanpur, the necessary condition for cloud seeding is that there should be sufficient moisture in the clouds, that is, there should be clouds with 50% or more moisture in the sky. During winter in North India, clouds are affected by western disturbances, which reduces the amount of moisture in the air. In such a situation, the chances of successful cloud seeding operation are reduced.
On Friday, water was sprayed through anti-smog guns in Delhi.
Delhi government demands cloud seeding from central government In fact, the Delhi government has demanded emergency measures to deal with the increasing pollution in the city. Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai has written four times to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav requesting him to adopt cloud seeding as a possible measure to prevent pollution. Also asked to hold a meeting regarding this.
CPCB has said that the proposed cloud seeding experiment will cost approximately ₹3 crore. Under this experiment, at least 100 square kilometers area will be covered and cloud seeding will be done through five flights.
