A severe dispute emerged between Congress MLA Naresh Selwal and the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Electricity Corporation in Uklana of Haryana’s Hisar district. Both parties took to writing formal complaints against each other, escalating the situation further.

The MLA accused the SDO of harassing local residents and demanded immediate disciplinary action. In his letter to top officials, including the Chief Minister, the Power Minister, and the Chief Secretary, Selwal highlighted ongoing issues within the electricity department that left constituents frustrated.
Conversely, the SDO also reached out to higher authorities, specifically the Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, to voice his grievances against Selwal. The exchange of letters gained significant attention on social media, sparking discussions among the public.
According to Selwal, the incident unfolded on October 22 when he visited the SDO’s office. After numerous attempts to contact the SDO regarding persistent electricity problems in the Uklana area – attempts that went unanswered – Selwal reportedly arrived at the office to find a group of 10-15 constituents waiting for assistance. They reported their concerns but were reportedly unable to see the SDO or receive any help.
In his recounting, Selwal stated that he requested an appointment with the SDO, who refused to meet him. Frustrated, the MLA insisted on entering the office to advocate for his constituents. Upon his entry, the SDO reportedly reacted with anger, questioning Selwal’s authority to enter uninvited. Selwal, identifying himself as the elected representative, confronted the SDO about his failure to answer calls and the denial of access.
The SDO’s response, as described by Selwal, was dismissive, asserting that he could not possibly respond to the calls of all 90 MLAs in the assembly. This exchange, which Selwal characterised as a public humiliation, raised concerns about the treatment of elected officials and their ability to address the needs of their constituents.
In his letter to the Executive Engineer, the SDO portrayed a different narrative. He claimed that Selwal arrived with a group and threatened him, stating, “I will send you home in 2 minutes,” and indicated that the group suggested taking matters into their own hands if their grievances were not addressed.
