Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli having fun during training.

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir has said that he is not worried about Virat Kohli’s poor performance. Kohli has the same hunger for runs as he did at the time of his debut. This hunger makes him a world class cricketer.

Gambhir said in the press conference in Bengaluru on Monday – It is not right to assess Virat after every match. I am sure he will score runs in the series against New Zealand and also in Australia.

Kohli has scored fifty only once in the last 8 innings of the Test. Then he played an inning of 76 runs against South Africa in Centurion in December 2023. His performance in the recently concluded two-Test home series against Bangladesh was also not very special.

In the first test played in Chennai, he scored 6 and 17 runs. Whereas in the second Test played in Kanpur, he scored 47 runs in the first innings and 29 not out in the second innings.

Gambhir hopes – Virat will return in New Zealand Test Gautam Gambhir said- Hopefully Virat will return to form and give his best in the three-match home Test series against New Zealand. The first match of the three-Test series against New Zealand is to be played from October 24. My view regarding Virat is very clear that he is a world class cricketer. He has performed so well for so many years.

If we are getting favorable results, then there is nothing to worry about. Not every player can perform at his best every day. Our job is to keep supporting the players. My job is to select the best 11, not to exclude anyone. We have to play eight consecutive Tests and everyone’s eyes are on a good performance.

Virat is the second player after Sachin to score most centuries in international cricket. In the history of cricket, only Sachin Tendulkar has scored 100 centuries. Virat Kohli is at second place with 80 centuries. Ricky Ponting of Australia is at third place in terms of scoring most centuries. He has scored 71 centuries.

Sachin has scored 51 centuries in Tests and 49 centuries in ODIs. Whereas Virat has scored 29 centuries in Test, 50 in ODI and one century in T-20. Ricky Ponting has scored 41 centuries in Tests and 30 centuries in ODIs.

Virat has retired from T-20 Virat has retired from T-20. He had announced his retirement from T20 International after India won the World Cup this year. He became the player of the match in the final against South Africa, he played an important inning of 76 runs. Virat has scored 4188 runs in 125 T-20s played so far. This includes one century and 38 half-centuries.

When Kohli was abusing after getting out in that match, Gautam Gambhir raised questions on his abusing. In this tension, a fierce confrontation was seen between these two giants.

The matter had become so bad that a scuffle broke out between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli. Other players present on the ground resolved the matter.

On May 1, 2023, Gambhir clashed with Virat Kohli during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium. According to reports, Kohli had abused Navil Ul Haq. Gambhir was then the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants. Later the match referee fined both of them.
