A new station of the Indian Air Force will be built in Deesa city located in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, just 130 km from the Pakistan border. The Indian Defense Ministry conducted a survey of the available runways at Disha airbase, known as Obstacle Limitation Surface Survey.

The Indian Defense Ministry has entrusted the work of this survey to a private company of Singapore. Under the same, a small DA-62 type aircraft from Singapore reached Ahmedabad airport.

This type of special survey is conducted only by foreign companies, whose pilots are also very competent and have extensive flying experience. Now the report of this survey will be submitted to the Defense Ministry. Through which a map of the entire airport will be prepared.

Airbase will be built on 4500 acres, Kandla will get security 4,500 acres of land has been allotted for the establishment of the airbase. An investment of Rs 1,000 crore will be required. The runway will be built at a cost of Rs 394 crore.

The entire Air Force station will be based on Green Field Concept technology which is environment friendly. The construction of the Air Force station will create opportunities and bring economic prosperity to Kutch and South Rajasthan.

The establishment of Deesa Airfield will provide India with a geographically secure launch pad for land and sea operations on the western border. Ahmedabad, Vadodara will get air security.

This airfield will help India achieve its economic and energy goals by establishing an airbase east of Kandla Port and Jamnagar Oil Refinery. Their security will increase.

The capability of Indian Air Force will increase manifold compared to Pakistan. The Deesa Air Force station will reduce the long distance between Bhuj airbase and Uttarlai airbase in Rajasthan. With the construction of Deesa airbase, the capability of the Indian Air Force will increase manifold compared to the capability of Pakistan’s Mirpur Khas and Jacobabad.

What is Obstacle Limitation Surface Survey? The OLS survey involves extensive monitoring, identifying obstacles around the airport. On this basis, a map of safe airspace is prepared. This survey is required for every airfield and is part of airport technical inspection.

When was the project approved? The Cabinet Committee on Security in March 2018 approved the Air Force’s plan to set up a combat base at Disha. The Center had decided to set up an air base in Disha in 2020. PM Modi had laid the foundation stone of this airbase at the Defense Expo 2022.
