Israel had also attacked Yemen 2 months ago

Israel attacked Yemen for the first time on July 21.
For the first time in July, after 9 months of war against Hamas, Israel conducted airstrikes on several positions of Houthi rebels in Yemen. News agency AFP had reported that Israel targeted Hodeida Port and Power Station occupied by Houthi rebels.
After the attack, a massive fire broke out in a fuel depot. Three Houthi rebels were killed in this attack, while 87 people were injured. Israel attacked Yemen in response to the attack on Tel Aviv. In fact, Houthi rebels had carried out a drone attack on the Israeli city Tel Aviv on July 19. A 50 year old Israeli had died in this. About 10 people were injured there.

Yemen has been attacking Israel since the war with Hamas. Yemeni rebels have launched repeated attacks on Israel since the start of its war with Hamas in Gaza on October 7 last year. Yemen has targeted Israel several times with drones and missiles. Most of these attacks have been stopped by the Israeli army or its allies.
However, Israel could not stop the drone attack in Tel Aviv on Friday (July 19). The Houthis said that it had attacked with a new drone, which can penetrate enemy systems.
The Houthis have also attacked American bases and commercial ships in the Red Sea. Their aim is to stop the ships reaching Israel. The Houthis say that they carry out these attacks as a form of support for the Palestinians. Both Britain and the US responded to the attacks on the ships by attacking Houthi targets in Yemen. However, Israel never participated in these attacks.
Who are the Houthi rebels?
- The Houthis are an armed group of Yemen’s minority Shia ‘Zaidi’ community. The community formed the group in the 1990s to fight the alleged corruption of then President Ali Abdullah Saleh. They are named after their campaign’s founder, Hussein al-Houthi. They also call themselves ‘Ansar Allah’ i.e. companions of God.
- During the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, Houthi rebels used the slogan, “God is great.” America should be destroyed, Israel should be destroyed. May the Jews be destroyed and Islam be victorious.” They described themselves as part of the Iran-led ‘axis of resistance’ against Israel, the US and the West, along with Hamas and Hezbollah.
- Civil war started in Yemen in 2014. Its root is the Shia-Sunni dispute. The two communities have been at loggerheads since the beginning of the Arab Spring in 2011, which escalated into civil war, the Carnegie Middle East Center reports. In 2014, Shia rebels opened a front against the Sunni government.

- This government was led by President Abdrabbhu Mansour Hadi. Hadi seized power in February 2012 from former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who had been in power for a long time after the Arab Spring. Hadi was struggling to bring stability to the country amid change. At the same time, the army split and the separatist Houthis mobilized in the south.
- In the race for dominance in Arab countries, Iran and Saudi Arabia also jumped into this civil war. On one hand, Houthi rebels got support from Shia dominated country Iran. So the government of the Sunni majority country Saudi Arabia.
- Within no time, the rebels known as Houthi captured a large part of the country. In 2015, the situation had become such that the rebels had forced the entire government to go into exile.
