There is going to be a reshuffle in the cabinet of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab today. CM Bhagwant has removed 4 ministers from his cabinet. In return, 5 MLAs will be made new ministers. These MLAs will take oath as ministers at 5 pm today.

The reshuffle in the cabinet of the Punjab government was considered certain about 3 months ago, just after the Lok Sabha elections, but it kept getting postponed due to the Jalandhar assembly by-election. Now this change in the middle of the Haryana assembly elections and just before the panchayat elections has surprised everyone.
This reshuffle in the cabinet is being done after looking at the performance of the ministers and the reports of their areas. While including new faces, caste equations are being kept in mind and they have been given the leadership of big districts.
Apart from this, by making Mohinder Bhagat a minister, the CM has given a return gift to Jalandhar. Because, during the by-elections, he had told the people that if you make him an MLA, I will make him a minister myself. Five new ministers will take oath at the Raj Bhavan today evening.
Reasons for cabinet reshuffle…
1. Questions were being raised due to the alleged pornographic video going viral The four ministers who have been removed from the Punjab cabinet include Balkar Singh, Anmol Gagan Maan, Chetan Singh Jodmajra and Brahm Shankar Jimpa. The main reason for Balkar Singh’s removal from the cabinet is believed to be his alleged pornographic video going viral. The opposition was constantly attacking the government on this issue.
Secondly, he had a major department like the local body, but the ministers and MLAs were not happy with his department. Amritsar MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap had raised questions in the assembly. Whereas, municipal elections are also to be held in the future.
2. Not Active but Precious Similarly, Anmol Gagan Maan was also not active in the constituency. There is anger against her in the constituency. Recently, she had shocked everyone by giving a statement that officers take money in her name. Whereas, the constituency was being managed by her family.
3. Two ministers can get responsibility in the organization At the same time, replacing Chetan Singh Jodmajra and Brahma Shankar Jimpa is surprising. Because Jodmajra is considered to be close to the CM. Whereas, Jimpa was a very active minister. There was no question on both of them. However, it is believed that the party wants to include them in the organization.
Trying to solve caste equations By including new faces in the cabinet, CM Mann has tried to balance the caste equations. Now two and a half years of the government’s tenure are left. In such a situation, the government is trying to satisfy every section. In this sequence, MLA from Lahra, Barinder Goyal is being included in the cabinet. He is an advocate by profession.
Vijay Singla was sacked from the post of Health Minister after allegations of corruption were made against him. Since then, there was no minister from the Bania community in the Punjab Cabinet. However, there is a large Bania community in Punjab. They also have influence on many seats.
Similarly, Jalandhar West MLA Mohinder Bhagat is being made a minister. While, the name of Sham Chaurasi MLA Dr. Ravjot is also being discussed. Using this as an excuse, the government is trying to woo the Scheduled Caste vote bank. This will strengthen the party in Doaba. Sources say that this is also a reason for replacing Jimpa.
Ludhiana’s entry in the cabinet after two and a half years Ludhiana and Fatehgarh Sahib districts are among the important districts of Punjab, but AAP had to face defeat in these constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections. In such a situation, the party has given priority to these constituencies in the cabinet after about two and a half years.
Sahnewal MLA Hardeep Singh Mundia and Khanna MLA Tarunpreet Singh are being included in the cabinet. Both are businessmen by profession and Sikh faces. The effort is to strengthen the party in the coming times. Congress is strong in all these constituencies.
CM fulfilled his promise By including Mohinder Bhagat in the cabinet, the CM has given a clear message that he has fulfilled the promise he made. During the elections, the CM had said that if Mohinder Bhagat climbs one step, he will climb the other step himself. Here, the purpose of CM Mann’s statement was linked to making Mohinder Bhagat a minister.
5 Scheduled Caste ministers will be in the cabinet This is the fourth time the cabinet of the Punjab government is going to be expanded. If Dr. Ravjot enters the cabinet along with Mohinder Bhagat, then there will be 5 ministers belonging to the Scheduled Caste in the cabinet. Other cabinet members already include Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak.
On 4 July 2022, he appointed Aman Arora, Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, Fauja Singh Sarari, Chetan Singh Joda Majra and Anmol Gagan Mann as ministers. Later on 7 January 2023, Sarari resigned and Dr. Balbir Singh was made the Health Minister.
