China received 11,695 tourists and stood at third position. Floods and landslides in August are considered to be a major reason for the decline in the number of Indian tourists in Nepal. Especially Indian pilgrims going to Kailash Mansarovar had to face problems. 30% decline in the number of Indian tourists According to Nepal Tourism Board, more than 1.32 lakh foreign tourists reached Nepal in October this year. This is 3.4% more than last year. However, there was a decline of about 30% in the number of tourists coming from India. What is the reason for the increase in the number of American tourists? According to tour operators in Nepal, one of the reasons for the increase in the number of tourists coming from America is the increasing interest in trekking and mountain climbing. Especially young tourists are coming to Nepal. Ganga Bahadur Thapa, head of the Nepal Hiking Team, said that even after the August flood, no American customer canceled the trip. Some postponed the journey, while others reached Nepal as per schedule. According to Thapa, the road to Langtang was affected by the flood. The company gave options to other trekking routes like Annapurna Circuit and Everest Base Camp to the tourists planning to go there. Apart from this, people of Nepali origin living in America are also reaching Nepal. They come to meet their families on festivals like Dashain and Tihar. This increases the number of tourists coming to Nepal. About 10 lakh foreign tourists have arrived so far this year. A total of 9,98,734 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal between January and October 2026. This is 5.83% more than the same period last year. The arrival of more than 1.32 lakh tourists in October is a good sign for Nepal’s tourism business. Before the Corona epidemic, 2019 was the best year for Nepal’s tourism. That year 11,97,191 foreign tourists reached Nepal. The tourism business suffered huge losses in 2020 and the following years due to the pandemic. After this the number of tourists gradually increased. In the year 2024, 11,47,567 foreign tourists arrived in Nepal, while in 2025 this number will increase to 11,58,459. Till October this year, about 10 lakh tourists have reached Nepal. To break the record of 2019, about 1.98 lakh more tourists are required to arrive in November and December.
