Asuka has shared a personal update from Japan while remaining away from WWE’s in-ring action. The former women’s champion revealed on X that she has been selected to serve as a one-day police chief in Osaka, where she will take part in a public-facing role for the Japanese police. Her announcement came months after her loss to IYO SKY at Backlash, the match that preceded her farewell message to fans. Asuka has not returned to WWE programming since then. Her new post gives fans an update on what she has been up to outside the wrestling ring, with the Osaka event bringing her into a very different kind of spotlight.
Asuka Jokes About Being in Charge as Osaka Police Chief for One Day
Asuka kept her announcement playful, warning the officers who will be working under her during the one-day appointment. She wrote on X, translated from Japanese:
“I’m doing one-day police chief. Get ready, you officers under my jurisdiction. ‘Cause I’m the type that works people hard.”
The appointment is part of a Japanese police initiative in which public figures take on the chief’s role for a day to help raise awareness of laws among citizens. Asuka will be taking part in the event in Osaka, her home country.
Away from WWE, the former champion has also spoken about her wrestling identity. Before signing with the promotion, she competed under the name Kana. She explained that she chose Asuka herself rather than having WWE assign her a new ring name.
“In my case, I decided my name myself, though,” she wrote while discussing the subject on social media. She said she wanted a name starting with the letter A, while keeping a sense of continuity with her previous identity.
I’m going to be the police chief for a day???????? It’s time for the police officers under my jurisdiction to prepare themselves???? Because I’m the type of person who uses people harshly.

Asuka Has Confirmed She Still Belongs to WWE Despite Her Extended Break
The uncertainty around Asuka’s wrestling future has also prompted her to address speculation about leaving WWE. In October, she replied to a fan on X who asked whether she had quit the company.
“I haven’t left the group. I haven’t quit,” Asuka responded.
She had already discussed her absence in a May update on her KanaChanTV YouTube channel, explaining that she needed time away for a personal matter. Asuka also made clear that she remained officially part of WWE, while warning viewers not to expect regular appearances.
Her last match was against IYO SKY at Backlash on May 9, 2026. SKY won the bout, and the two shared an emotional embrace afterward. Asuka then appeared on the following episode of RAW, where she said goodbye to SKY.
Asuka first arrived in WWE through NXT in 2016 and built a lengthy championship run before moving to the main roster. She held the NXT Women’s Championship without losing it, eventually relinquishing the title after her call-up. Charlotte Flair later handed her first WWE defeat at WrestleMania 34 in 2018.
