What is Initial Public Offering or IPO?
When a company issues its shares to the general public for the first time, it is called Initial Public Offering i.e. IPO.
The company needs money to expand its business. In such a situation, instead of taking loan from the market, the company raises money by selling some shares to the public or issuing new shares. For this the company brings IPO.
What is the gray market premium of IPO?
The Gray Market Premium (GMP) of an IPO tells us how much more people are willing to buy the shares of that IPO in the unofficial market before listing. Gray market is an unofficial way in which some traders buy and sell shares even before listing.
Since GMP shows how much premium people are willing to pay, it is used by most investors to estimate the price at which a share will open on the day of listing.
Sometimes the gray market premium proves to be absolutely accurate, sometimes it also fluctuates slightly. But this is the most popular way to estimate listing gains.
What is Red Hearing Prospectus (RHP)?
This is an official document that a company submits to SEBI and Registrar of Companies (RoC) before launching an IPO.
It contains complete details of the company’s business, financial condition, promoters and risk factors. In this, there is an estimated range instead of the final price of shares (issue price) or price band and the number of shares, which is decided later.
