Double Paralympic medallist high-jumper Nishad Kumar on Tuesday scripted history to become just the third Indian to win two gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Para Games as he clinched the top spot in the men’s T47 event with a Games record in Aichi-Nagoya.
Having clinched gold in the T47 long jump on Monday, Nishad struck gold again on Tuesday, clearing 2.04m to win the high jump title and set a new Games record.
Ankur Dhama, who competed in the men’s 5000m T11 and 1500m T11 events and armless archer Sheetal Devi, who took part in the women’s individual compound open and mixed team compound open events, had won two gold medals each at the previous edition in Hangzhou, China.
The T47 classification is for athletes with upper-limb impairments. Nishad lost his right arm at the age of six after it was severed by a grass-cutting machine at his family farm in Amb, Himachal Pradesh.
