The Delhi Police has vowed action against the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and its founder Abhijeet Dipke ahead of the group’s proposed tricolour assembly at Connaught Place tomorrow, October 16.
Police have denied permission to the CJP to assemble at Connaught Place tomorrow, October 16, to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
The Delhi Police told the Delhi High Court on Thursday that it will take “appropriate steps” against Dipke, who has called for ‘‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest on Friday at Central Delhi’s Connaught Place, according to LiveLaw.
The remark came as the court was hearing a plea by Anil Kumar Gupta, a licensed street vendor who sells readymade garments at Palika Bazar, claiming that the proposed protest would affect businesses in the area.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has called for ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ assembly at Connaught Place tomorrow, October 15, days after a massive police crackdown on the group’s proposed October 10 protest in Delhi.
The CJP and the opposition INDIA bloc have been demanding the rollback of the controversial SIR and the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma said, “Counsel for the Petitioner in this petition has apprehended that conduct of respondent no 6 (CJP through Dipke) is likely to disturb business activity in CP area. We are informed that respondent no 6 is already served on email”, as quoted by LiveLaw.
“When confronted, ASG assures that apprehension of petitioner shall be taken care of as the respondents have already taken action to control and regulate the activities of respondent no 6 and all possible measures under the law will be taken. The assurance is taken on record. Post the matter for further consideration on November 3″, said the bench.
‘It Will Block Entire CP’
During the hearing, senior advocate Sachin Puri, appearing for the petitioner, raised concerns about the potential impact of the CJP protest on businesses in Connaught Place.
“In heart of CP, (it) will block entire CP. This is not about Jantar Mantar. They may ensure that protest doesn’t take place and movement is not stopped,” he said.
Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma appearing for Delhi Police told the court that the CJP has called for an “illegal march”.
“Respondent no 6 (CJP) has called an illegal march. This is festival weekend. We will be completely on street. CJP’s (Abhijeet) Dipke be directly restrained. He comes from outside Delhi. If this weekend also goes, it will be over for us. This is major Hindu festival”, he said, LiveLaw reported.
He then told the court that action would be taken against the CJP and Abhijeet Dipke.
CJP Calls For ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ March
In a video message on Wednesday, Abhijeet Dipke appealed to “all patriots who love the tricolour” to gather at Connaught Place at 5 pm on October 16 and protest against what he described as the “illegal arrest” of party members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

Das and Ranka were detained after the two sneaked into Jantar Mantar, which was de-notified as a protest venue, and waved the tricolour.
Dipke, in his video message, claimed that the CJP co-conveners were jailed simply for “waving the tricolour” at Jantar Mantar. He said the protest was intended to convey that waving the national flag is not a crime.
