Monthly contribution i.e. investment through Systematic Investment Plan i.e. SIP has reached a new all-time high of ₹ 32,490 crore in September 2026. Earlier in August this figure was ₹32,297 crore.

There has been an increase of ₹ 193 crore i.e. about 0.6% in SIP contribution in September as compared to August. This shows that the confidence of retail investors regarding mutual fund investment in the country is continuously strengthening.

This is the second consecutive month that SIP contributions have crossed ₹32,000 crore. However, during this period there has been a decline in the total assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry.

63 lakh new SIP registrations, total SIP assets reach ₹17.86 lakh crore

According to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), about 63 lakh new SIP accounts have been registered in the month of September. With this, by the end of September, total assets under management (SIP AUM) through SIP has reached the level of ₹ 17.86 lakh crore.

Through SIP, instead of investing a lump sum, investors invest a fixed amount in mutual fund schemes at a fixed time every month. Monthly SIP contribution reflects the amount received in that month, while SIP AUM reflects the current market value of the money invested.

Total AUM of the industry decreased by 5.1%, selling by debt funds

Despite record investments in SIP, the total net assets under management (AUM) of the mutual fund industry declined in September. As of September 30, the total AUM of the industry stood at ₹82.64 lakh crore, which was ₹87.08 lakh crore at the end of August. There has been a decline of about 5.1%.

The main reason for the decline in AUM is heavy selling by debt mutual funds. Net outflows of ₹1.83 lakh crore were recorded from debt funds in September.

AMFI data shows that total AUM may decline due to redemptions or changes in market value, but regular inflows through SIPs may continue to increase.

Investment increased in equity funds, maximum of ₹9,038 crore came in small-cap

In contrast to the selling in debt funds, investor interest in equity-oriented mutual funds has increased. There has been investment of ₹38,306.55 crore in equity schemes in September, which is about 31% more than ₹29,328.62 crore in August.

Investment situation in equity category

  • Small-Cap Funds: Highest investment of ₹9,038.57 crore was received.
  • Mid-Cap Funds: An investment of ₹7,834.84 crore was made in this.
  • Flexi-Cap Funds: Investors invested ₹6,701.80 crore in this category.

What is SIP and AUM?

  • Systematic Investment Plan (SIP): It is a way of investing in mutual funds, in which investors deposit a fixed amount such as ₹500 or ₹1,000 every month or at fixed intervals. This reduces the impact of market fluctuations.
  • Assets Under Management (AUM): The current market value of total assets managed by a mutual fund company or the entire industry is called AUM. This includes both new money from investors and the value of old holdings.
