The prices of satellite internet service ‘Starlink’ will be very cheap in India. Amidst the ongoing controversy regarding its entry in the country, Elon Musk has indicated this. He says that due to increased competition among companies in the market, Indian users will be the ultimate beneficiary. He said that with the arrival of Starlink, Ambani’s profits may decrease slightly, but his business will not stop. Obviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India then no one will buy it, so SpaceX will have to keep its prices cheap to survive here. Musk vs Ambani… Understand the whole controversy. Elon Musk has been expressing his displeasure for the last few days regarding the delay in the launch of Starlink in India. He is blaming Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani for this delay and is continuously posting against him on social media. Recently, in one of his posts, Musk took a dig at Mukesh Ambani and wrote him ‘Prime Minister Ambani’. In this post he had called Ambani the real boss of India. His argument was that Starlink can provide connectivity to areas without internet in India. This will provide education to underprivileged children and access to the global market to small businessmen. After this post of Musk, some people said that India has the cheapest and fastest internet in the world. Here, 60GB data is available for just ₹ 300-400 per month, which works well even in remote villages. In such a situation, it is reasonable to raise the question that when Starlink charges around ₹ 2,200 per month in other countries, then who will buy it in India. Responding to this argument, Musk said that on one hand he claims that Starlink will not be able to compete with Jio’s cheap plans in India. On the other hand, they also say that competition will increase with the arrival of Starlink. These two things cannot be true together. The truth is that increasing competition in the market always benefits common customers. With the arrival of Starlink, the profits of Ambani’s company may decrease slightly, but his business will not stop. Obviously, if Starlink is too expensive in India then no one will buy it, so SpaceX will have to keep its prices cheap to survive here. Government’s answer – Monopoly will not be allowed in India. In ‘India Mobile Congress 2026’, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made the government’s stand clear. He said that monopoly will not be allowed in any sector in India. He informed that three satellite internet companies have received licenses in the country. 1. Reliance Jio Satcom 2. Bharti Airtel supported Eutelsat OneWeb 3. Elon Musk’s Starlink However, the government also clarified that the security clearance of all these companies getting the license is still pending. Apart from this, the pricing framework of satellite spectrum is also being decided. These services can be started in India only after all the necessary conditions are fulfilled. Starlink devices were found in drugs smuggling in Andaman and Manipur violence. In the year 2024, Indian agencies had recovered Starlink devices during the investigation of drugs smuggling in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and during an army operation in Manipur. Elon Musk had then said that Starlink’s service was never active in India. The devices found could not have used Starlink’s satellite network. The Starlink kit consists of a Starlink dish, a Wi-Fi router, power supply cables, and a mounting tripod. For high-speed internet, the dish is kept under the open sky. Starlink’s app is available on iOS and Android, which takes care of everything from setup to monitoring. Starlink provides internet through satellites in low earth orbit. Starlink provides internet service by deploying its satellites in low earth orbit. Through this, internet is available even in those remote areas where there is no mobile network or broadband. The company is trying to launch its services in India from 2021 itself.
