Nandigram Bypoll Election Results 2026, West Bengal By Election Counting Live Updates: The counting of votes for the high-stakes Nandigram Assembly bypoll in West Bengal will take place today, October 9, with the result expected to decide the winner of a politically significant contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. The bypoll was necessitated after West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who won Nandigram in the 2026 Assembly election, vacated the seat after retaining Bhabanipur.
The BJP has fielded Hasirani Rath, while Congress candidate Milan Pradhan is contesting with the backing of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction after its own nominee withdrew from the race. The contest has drawn attention as Nandigram remains a politically significant constituency, where Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in the 2021 Assembly election.
Polling for the Nandigram bypoll was held on October 6 and recorded a high turnout. The Election Commission’s final figures put voter turnout at 80.89 per cent, with allegations of voter intimidation, booth-related irregularities and other electoral malpractice raised by opposition parties. The BJP and Chief Minister Adhikari rejected the allegations and maintained that polling was peaceful.
Today, all eyes will be on the counting trends and the final Nandigram bypoll result. The Supreme Court on Wednesday also declined to interfere with Pradhan’s interim bail, allowing him to participate in the counting process.
