Hamam al-Hamami wanted to crash the plane
On September 30, flydubai flight FZ1073 was going from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During this, Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hamami attacked Indian Captain Smit Mosquito in the cockpit with an ax (crash axe) and tried to take control of the plane and crash it.
The Indian captain, despite being injured, managed to open the cockpit door. After this, after the help of passengers and crew, the plane was landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
According to Flightradar 24, during the attack the plane had descended from 33 thousand feet to 17 thousand feet in about a minute.
Hamami’s connection with Al-Qaeda is being investigated
Hamam al-Hamami is in UAE custody. His social media accounts are also under investigation. According to reports, pictures of many Al-Qaeda terrorists were found on his accounts. These also include pictures of Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the attacker was influenced by Islamic fundamentalism. His intention was to crash the plane along with the passengers.
Investigations have revealed that before joining flydubai, Al-Hamami had worked for Oman Air and Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc. He joined flydubai about 8 months ago.
According to reports, concerns were raised about his radical views while working at Oman Air. After this he was removed from duty and given administrative work.
