The Tamil Nadu government on Friday suspended two officials for writing Hindi on highway signboards. Both the officers are assistant engineers in the highway department. The action took place regarding the new signboard installed on Sattankulam-Nazareth State Highway (SH-93) in Tuticorin district. According to the policy of Tamil Nadu, only Tamil and English should be used on signboards. Violating this, the officials had also got the names of the towns written in Hindi. As soon as the government got the information, Hindi words were erased from the signboard. Departmental action has also been initiated against both the officers. The government has warned of further action in such cases.
