The Election Commission will run a special campaign in 20 states and union territories that have completed Special Intensive Revision (SIR). In this, names of people left out during SIR and new voters who have completed 18 years of age will be added to the voter list.

The Election Commission had given this instruction in writing on September 29. This was also reiterated in the video conference held with the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all the states on Thursday.

In the first and second phase, the SIR process has been completed in 13 states and union territories. At the same time, in the third phase, SIR process is going on in 16 states and 3 union territories. Out of these, the list has been released in 7 states. However, EC has not revealed the names of 7 states in the third phase. In Maharashtra, maximum names of two crore people have been left out of the voter list.

The removed names will also be investigated

Apart from this, the Commission has decided to form a committee to review ECINet. It will also include an independent expert from an IIT or IIIT. Changes will be made in the software as per need.

The Election Commission will compare the voter lists before and after SIR, so that the eligible voters who have been removed by mistake can be identified.

BLO will go to homes and check such people. If not found duplicate or dead, the name will be re-added through Form 6. In this, help of political parties and booth level agents will also be taken.

EC said- take special care in Maharashtra

SIR is still going on in Maharashtra. Here the officials have been instructed not to remove the name of any eligible voter in haste.

Mumbai city and Mumbai suburb officials have been asked to take a decision on removing the name only after thorough scrutiny of the documents and information. Special camps will also be organized for those receiving notices on October 3, 4, 10 and 11.

About 1.22 crore records in the draft voter list of Maharashtra have been identified for verification. Of these, about 62.48 lakh cases are related to discrepancies in the information about relatives and about 59.75 lakh cases are related to non-mapping of relatives in the previous voter list.

The Election Commission has said that the name of an eligible voter should not be left out of the list and his right to vote should be protected.

Claim in the report – Two election commissioners raised objections 14 times

According to the Indian Express report, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised objections 14 times in 10 months on decisions related to adding additional information in Form-6 and SIR. He said that a new part was added to the form without changing the rules.

However, the Election Commission on Wednesday removed the additional declaration form from Form-6 in states where SIR has been completed. Now after deletion of name in SIR, information of 2003 voter list will not have to be given to get name added again.
