The Supreme Court has termed the issue of the spread of obscene and sexually exploitative videos and photos related to children on the internet as very serious. The court has asked the Central Government what action has been taken so far on the instructions given in September 2024 and what arrangements have been made to stop such content. Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Justice K. Vinod Chandran’s bench has asked the IT Ministry and the Law Ministry to inform whether the social media companies are following the rules or not. Also tell what action is being taken against the platforms that spread such content and are negligent in removing it. The petitioner in this case, Bhuvan Ribhu, says that it is very important to be strict on the content related to sexual exploitation of children, its mandatory reporting and fixing the accountability of social media companies. This hearing of the Supreme Court is being considered an important step in that direction.
