Tajinderpal Singh Toor Wins 3rd Straight Asian Games Medal, Bags Silver In Shot Put

Tajinderpal Singh Toor entered his name in the history books on Saturday (September 26) by winning his third consecutive medal at the Asian Games. The 31-year-old athlete from Punjab, who had won gold medals for India in the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Asian Games, won silver in the men’s shot put event at the 2026 edition of the Asian Games.

Toor registered his best throw of 20.64m in the fifth attempt to finish behind Mohammadreza Tayebise of Iran. Tayebise won the gold medal with an Asian Games record throw of 20.81m in his second attempt.

The previous Asian Games record was held by Toor, who had registered a throw of 20.75m at the 2018 Asian Games.

In the final, Toor touched the distance of 20.06m in his first attempt and followed it up with efforts of 20.26m, 19.77m, 19.71m and 20.64m in his next four attempts. He registered a foul throw in his sixth attempt.

Mohammed Tolu of Saudi Arabia finished in third place with a best attempt of 20.48m in his third attempt.

Toor had entered the final on Saturday as the two-time defending champion, but he failed to add one more gold medal to his credit.

Had he managed to win the yellow metal, he would have entered his name in the history books by becoming the first Indian to win three consecutive Asian Games gold medals in athletics.
