A tragic accident took place during Ganeshotsav in Kalechowki area of Mumbai. Five children and teenagers got affected by electric current outside the Mahaganpati pandal late at night. The fire brigade team said that the accident happened at around 2 o’clock in the night. At that time a crowd of devotees was present outside the pandal. Due to the sudden spread of electric current, two boys and three girls got caught in it. After the accident, all five were taken to Masina Hospital in Byculla. Here the doctors declared the 8 year old girl dead. When the condition of an injured girl became critical, she was sent to Global Hospital in Parel. Meanwhile, the condition of three injured admitted in Masina hospital is critical. He has been kept in ICU.
Four other injured are undergoing treatment in the hospital. These include 19 year old Kiran Akbar Naik, 19 year old Tanvi Narsh Hande, 19 year old Sahil Sandeep Tare and 12 year old Ruhi Singh. At present, information is awaited regarding the condition of all of them.
Information about another death in the accident came to light later. A woman admitted to Global Hospital died during treatment. His identity has not been revealed yet. According to officials, the woman was taken to the hospital after the accident. His condition deteriorated during treatment. Doctors tried to save him, but his life could not be saved.
As soon as information about the accident was received, teams from many agencies reached the spot. Mumbai Along with the fire brigade, police, BEST and employees of the concerned ward office of the Municipal Corporation also reached the spot.
‘You are gathering so much crowd, but there is no security arrangement’
Kismati Yadav, aunt of 8-year-old Ragini Yadav, who lost her life in the accident, has raised questions on the security arrangements of the pandal. She told that she had reached the Ganpati pandal with the children for darshan. it was very crowded. Therefore they were thinking of returning without having darshan.
Kismati Yadav told that, at around 2.40 in the night, he was standing outside a shop near the pandal. During this time the tarpaulin installed there was pulled. Along with this, water and electricity lines fell down. Many children got electrocuted. He told that his two children also got electrocuted. Foam started coming out of the mouth of a child. After this, the people present nearby together separated the children from the wire.
The aunt of the deceased girl alleges that the pandal did not have adequate security regarding electrical wires. Due to rain, water was also accumulated there. In such a situation, there was a need to stop people from going near open wires. He says that the organizers should have made complete security arrangements before gathering such a huge crowd.
Kismati Yadav said that her child cannot come back. He questioned the administration and government as to who will take responsibility for such accidents. He said that after the accident, police and officials come, statements are taken, but the family cannot get their child back.
He said that a large number of people come during the Ganpati festival. In such a situation, the organizers should also take care of the safety of the people. He demanded that responsibility for this incident should be fixed and concrete arrangements should be made to prevent such accidents in future.
The incident happened at a time when Ganpati festival is going on in Mumbai. A large number of devotees reach Lalbagh area during this time. After the accident, there was an atmosphere of chaos on the spot. Administration and police teams started handling the situation.
